Building a Future (BAF)

The Building a Future (BAF) Project was a 21-month initiative funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, through the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery (GFEMS). Implemented by Terre des Hommes Netherlands and Kesho Kenya, the project aims to reduce sex trafficking or re-trafficking of children in Kwale and Kilifi Counties. Its impact includes envisioning a reduction in the prevalence of trafficking and sexual exploitation among children in the targeted areas. The project focuses on ensuring survivors and children at risk remain in school, empowering communities to monitor and report trafficking cases, improving income for vulnerable families, enhancing employability skills for survivors, and promoting positive social norms that discourage child sex trafficking.

Pamodzi for Inclusive Education in South-East Africa

The Pamodzi for Inclusive Education in South-East Africa is a three-year project funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) through Oxfam IBIS. Led by Rays of Hope Ministries, the project aims to bridge the gap between inclusive education policies and their implementation in Malawi, Kenya, and Tanzania. The consortium, which includes Fount for Nations (Malawi), Kesho Kenya (Kenya), and Shule Direct (Tanzania), focuses on improving evidence utilization, developing community-driven rationales, and strengthening advocacy efforts for inclusive education. Through collaborative partnerships, the project seeks to create an enabling environment for policy change and enhance educational opportunities for all children in the region.

Wasichana Wetu Wafaulu

'Wasichana Wetu Wafaulu' means Let Our Girls Succeed and is a holistic six-year project specifically designed to remove cultural and socio-economic barriers that have prevented or made it difficult for primary school girls in arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) and urban slums in Kenya to transition to secondary schools and other alternative pathways. Kesho Kenya is one of four partners in Kenya with whom Education Development Trust implements the project.

SHINE - Students acting for Honesty, Integrity and Equality

SHINE project, initiated by Kesho Kenya in collaboration with KWEA CBO and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) of Kenya, aims to cultivate honesty, integrity, and equality among students in Kenya's educational system. Through Integrity Clubs established in schools and colleges as per the Ministry of Education's directive, SHINE engages students in identifying and addressing issues within their educational environment. Utilizing a Community Integrity Building Model, the project fosters peer accountability, skill development, and mentorship among students. Activities include community outreach, skill-building workshops, and cultural events like fashion shows to instill moral values and empower youth. Tusome - Let us read!

The literacy support project Tusome 'Let Us Read' project has the objectives to improve passion for reading, fluency and comprehension among grade 1 to 3 pupils in public primary schools and to sensitise parents on the importance of having a reading friendly environment at home. Creating engaged readers requires a partnership approach from schools, families and the community at large. Aside from the sheer joy of exercising the imagination, research shows reading for pleasure improves literacy, and learning outcomes.
